Thanks for taking time to read about our group and its goals. The Bedford Outdoor Sportsman Association, Inc. located in Bedford, VA was started in 1999
by a group of volunteers that had a passion for the out-of-doors. There was concern that younger generations were uneducated when it came to the values
that one can learn in the outdoors. The group wanted to raise public awareness on how to utilize Nature’s outdoor landscape as a recreation area, a place
of learning, and perhaps someday a place of work, thus the beginning of the Bedford Outdoor Show.
Proceeds from our shows have been used to support the following: the Bedford Shooting Team, a Youth Fishing Clinic, the local NWTF JAKES youth event, a
Trout Fishing Rodeo, Dixie Youth Baseball and Hunters for the Hungry. B.O.S.A. has also provided Educational Scholarships to area high school seniors.
We are always hearing the phrase “Kids are the future” and never has it been more accurate than when we look at our Outdoor Heritage and how it will be
accepted by generations to come. We at B.O.S.A. want to help keep alive the Outdoor Traditions of past generations. Our annual outdoor show serves as
both a fund raiser for our program and a way to educate and entertain the public.
The annual Bedford Outdoor Sportsman Show is typically held in February or March at the Bedford Armory in the city of Bedford. The show consists of
numerous local and out of town exhibitors, lab demonstrations, industry professionals and speakers, deer head mounts on display, turkey display, large
wildlife centerpiece display (varies year to year on mounts and theme), live auction, door prizes, The Parker Award, and much more! This is a first class event
for the Bedford area and draws thousands to the area for the day.
To promote outdoor recreational activities in the community and to provide area youth with educational opportunities related to outdoor recreation.

The Parker Award presentation is one of the highlights each year. The award started in 2006 in
memory of the late William "Billy" E. Parker of Bedford and is awarded for promoting
sportsmanship by practicing traditional, ethical and safe hunting skills. Billy Parker was a native
of Bedford County and an avid outdoors man and Billy made a name for himself throughout the
community for his sportsmanlike conduct in the woods while hunting various wild game.
In August of 2008, our B.O.S.A. family was racked with the loss of Ernest E. "Gene" Parker, Billy
Parker's oldest son. Gene was an avid sportsman himself and a great lover and teacher of the
outdoors. A founding father of B.O.S.A., Gene took part in every event and gave BOSA as much
time and effort he gave everything in his life - no less than 100%. In February, 2009, the "Billy
Parker Award" was posthumously awarded to Gene Parker for his sportsmanlike conduct,
educational awareness and pure love of the outdoors. From this point forward, the award shall
be named "The Parker Award".
Winners of The Parker Award are as follows: Melvin Mitchell, Barry Arrington and Gene Parker
